We are in the process of merging the two DESY plasma groups MPA and MLS into a joint plasma acceleration group. This process is ongoing. This present webpage provides information on activities in both groups.
Welcome to the joint MPA/MLS webpage, DESY’s team for plasma acceleration and high-power lasers, where we advance the fundamental understanding of plasma accelerators and mature the technology towards applications.
Our research portfolio covers all necessary competences: from theory and simulations, high-power laser development, beam- and laser-driven plasma acceleration, diagnostics and beam dynamics, software and electronics, all the way to pilot applications. We firmly believe that to successfully deploy plasma accelerator technology, we need to meticulously control and understand every single aspect of the machine from start to end.
Our flagship facilities include KALDERA, a high rep-rate laser to drive next-generation laser-plasma accelerators, and FLASHForward, a beam-driven plasma accelerator facility aiming to demonstrate a quality-preserving plasma booster.
